How to use the Discount Calculator

  1. Enter the original price or MRP.
  2. Enter the discount %, or tap one of the quick buttons.
  3. If there’s an extra offer (bank card, coupon), enter it as extra discount.
  4. To work backwards, switch to Find discount % and enter the sale price.

Formula

Final price = Price × (1 − D₁/100) × (1 − D₂/100)
Discount % = (Original − Sale) ÷ Original × 100
  • D₁ is the main discount and D₂ the extra discount, which is applied to the already-reduced price.

Worked example: 30% off plus an extra 10%

A jacket costs ₹2,499 with 30% off and an extra 10% with a bank card.

After 30%: ₹2,499 × 0.70 = ₹1,749.30. After the extra 10%: ₹1,749.30 × 0.90 = ₹1,574.37.

You save ₹924.63 – an effective discount of 37%, not 40%, because the second discount applies to the lower price.

Smart shopping tips

A big discount is not always the best deal:

  • Compare the final price across shops, not the discount percentage.
  • Check whether the MRP has been raised before the sale.
  • Remember delivery charges and convenience fees when comparing online prices.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate a discount?

Multiply the price by the discount percentage and divide by 100 to get the amount saved. Subtract that from the price. 25% off ₹1,200 = ₹300 off, so you pay ₹900.

Is 20% + 10% the same as 30% off?

No. The extra 10% applies to the already discounted price, so the total is 28%, not 30%.

How do I find the discount percentage?

Subtract the sale price from the original price, divide by the original price and multiply by 100.

Is GST included in the discounted price?

In India, MRP includes all taxes, so the discounted price on an MRP is usually tax-inclusive. For B2B prices, check whether GST is extra.
